The Porsche 911 is a sports car produced by the German automaker since 1963. It was developed to replace the Porsche 356, which had come to a standstill. The development of the new model had to respect some constraints: it had to implement the new 6-cylinder boxer engine, it had to be air-cooled and have 4 places, but also have the same stylistic approach of the previous model. The biggest problem that Porsche developers had to face was the body design. Starting from a prototype developed by Butzi Porsche, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, and after a long and complex work of refinement, it was initially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show named Porsche 901, later renamed to Porsche 911. The first 911 was a 2+2 coupe, with rear wheel drive, 4-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension and 4-speed manual transmission. In 1989 a small series of the 911 Speedster was made. It was a lightened convertible with a smaller windshield, plastic aerodynamic shell in place of the rear seats, and mechanics derived from the Carrera 3.2.
