The Porsche 911 is a sports car produced by the automaker Porsche since 1963. The design of this car was trusted to the son of Ferry Porsche, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, nicknamed by his family as ‘Butzi’. The designers decided to involve the technical and stylistic characteristics of the 356, with the rear mounted air-cooled boxer engine, but with enough interior space to accommodate 4 people. The construction of this car would enable Porsche to get into the Grand Turismo market. The technical development was not very complicated and the new mechanics, including the unprecedented six-cylinder boxer, were ready in 1961. The design of the body proved more problematic. The prototype ‘T7’ made by the end of 1959 did not convince the heads of the project as it was not able to keep an appearance of elegance with the need for rear passenger seats. Butzi was then forced to abandon the initial idea of the 4 seats and fold on the 2+2 configuration. The final Porsche 911 S was a 2+2 Coupe with a rear-overhanging engine, rear wheel drive, 4 wheel independent suspensions with torsion bars, 4-wheel disk brakes and a mechanical 5-speed gearbox. Thanks to a series of changes to the motor shaft the Porsche 911 S reached 160HP. Aesthetically, the S version is recognized for alloy wheels.
