The New Beetle is a car that has been in production by automaker Volkswagen since 1997. The New Beetle was born to evoke the famous Beetle, reinterpreted in modern lines. The sales of the Volkswagen in America were sharply decreasing. Some of the other Volkswagen models, which in Europe had been very successful, such as the Golf, could not find success in America. Hence the idea of two designers, Mays and Thomas, of returning to a car that had gotten so much acclaim in its day. At the official launch, in 1998, the New Beetle was a success. From the original model forty years before the New Beetle only retained the general aesthetic approach, while the mechanics were completely updated to adapt to current technologies. The interior is far from the spartan look of its predecessor.
